Activities with children
Mallorca is one of the most popular family holiday destinations and many families with children decide to spend their holidays in Playa de Palma as there is a very extensive beach and many facilities. We also have one of the most important tourist attractions on the island on our doorstep, Palma Aquarium. On a visit to the aquarium we can see over 8000 examples of 700 species that are sure to delight the youngest members of the family. There are also outdoor gardens, a jungle zone and Big Blue, one of the largest indoor tanks in Europe, where you can see over 1000 fish, including sharks. During the summer, there are also lots of organised activities for children including games, face-painting, water fights …
Boating activities
You can enjoy many boating activities from the Playa de Palma area, whether it's hiring a boat that doesn't need a licence or with a skipper. If you prefer to share a boating trip, you can opt for an excursion in a catamaran that will take you to the gorgeous area of Cap Rocat and Cala Vella, where you can drop anchor in a stunning cove with crystalline waters. There you can do some snorkelling or stand up paddle. This type of activity also includes lunch and drinks and is particularly popular in the summertime.
If you prefer a shorter excursion, you can board a boat at Arenal marina which will take you on a two-hour trip which includes a stop to swim if you wish. Those who prefer a different, more exclusive activity can choose an excursion on a sailing boat and discover the joy of sailing to the famous Es Trenc beach.
A day at the beach, an absolute must on your holiday
Mallorca is renowned for its beaches, and every holiday to Mallorca must include a visit to the gorgeous coves and beaches. In front of our hotels you have the wonderful Playa de Palma beach, where you can enjoy the excellent climate in Mallorca. It has all the necessary facilities including sun loungers, pedaloes, water sports......the sand is fine and white and there are about 50 metres of this sand before you get to the water's edge. It is worth noting that the beach is very long, reaching from the Arenal area up to Can Pastilla, and there is a lovely promenade all the way along for a relaxing stroll.
If you prefer to visit quieter beaches or small coves, you should know that in the Playa de Palma area there are some excellent options. It's true that some of the most famous coves in Mallorca are on the east coast, such as Cala Varques or Calo des Moro, but even so, there are a few hidden jewels close to our hotels in Playa de Palma:
- Caló Fort: a little-known cove nestled between some cliffs, it covers some 20 metres in length and 6 metres in width, with gorgeous waters and is very peaceful.
- Delta: here you'll find tiny coves and natural pools where you can sunbathe, in a place that used to be a mares quarry where stone was collected to use in the construction of the Cathedral.
- Cala Blava: a small funnel shaped beach between cliffs with delightful corners where you can swim.
A water park
Close to Playa de Palma we have Aqualand Mallorca, the largest water park on the island. Open from May to September, this is one of the suggestions on our list of activities. It has some of the best water attractions on the island and is divided into 4 areas:
- Adrenaline fun: slides for the most adventurous, where an adrenaline rush is guaranteed.
- Family fun: attractions and slides for all the family, where fun is guaranteed. Enjoy the multi race, grand canyon or the wave pool.
- Kid's zone: areas for the little ones, with small slides, fountains, water jets........the nearest thing to a children's park, but in the water.
- Chill out zone: a relaxing area where you can take a break on the crazy river or the jacuzzi zone.
The entrance ticket costs approximately 30 euros for adults and 21 euros for children and it's easy to get there by taxi or on the local bus.
Visit Palma
A visit to the island's capital is another activity that you must include in your holiday in Mallorca. Palma is a fascinating city, with so much to see and do. You can get there easily by public transport from our hotels and in 20-30 minutes you will be in the city centre close to the major monuments of Palma. There are many options for activities and visits in Palma, and a great way to start to discover the city is on a guided tour. Free tours have become very popular in the city over the last few years and it's an interesting way to see the best of Palma in around 2 hours.
One of the places that you really must visit in Palma is the Cathedral. Entrance costs 8€, and we recommend that you buy your tickets online to avoid the queues. The entrance ticket includes a visit to the Cathedral museum, the museum of Sacred Art and the different chapels, amongst which the chapel designed by the artist Miquel Barceló is a definite highlight.
After a visit to the Cathedral, you can wander around the streets of the centre of Palma, discovering beautiful squares, old noble houses with their charming patios, churches, 13th century convents or the ancient city walls.
Excursions around the island
If you are someone who likes to explore and discover places, you'll find lots to see in Mallorca. There are many excursions that you can do from the Playa de Palma, whether that be joining an organised excursion or hiring a car to explore at your own pace. Some of the most popular options are:
- An excursion to the Caves of Drach
- A trip to Formentor and it's pretty beach
- A day out in Soller by train and combining the tram, boat and bus
